This is the only Marcgravia I have seen that achieves a more mature form commonly in a terrarium. This marcgravia unlike most others branches heavily and with 60 cm of growth and adequate humidity and airflow will achieve a significantly different growth pattern of horizontal growth away from the wall it’s grown on with much larger and more pointed leaves. This growth is a more mature form, and will extend about 10-14 cm away from the wall. This is shown in the first image, and has been achieved consistently in all of our terrariums. Because of its tendency to branch, and it’s ease of trimming it makes a wonderful wall cover with its juvenile round 1cm long/wide leaves. The horizontal growth can also make a very striking centrepiece to a wall. We commonly recommend this as a wall cover over the similarly sized Ficus Pumila(standard, not quercifolia) because it does not root into the wall as aggressively which makes it much easier to trim. Because of the moderately fast growth, care must be taken with this vine as it can easily overgrow other plants like miniature orchids and ferns.
Plant at the base of a wall in ABG mix or similar.
Does best in 70+ humidity, we have experimented and achieved healthy growth at humidity as low as 40. It has put out horizontal growth even in our 50-70 Chahoua terrarium which is the featured image.
Tolerant of a wide range, will have lighter colour and grow faster with higher light.
