Medium sized Melastome from Ecuador, does well in moderate lighting. Perfect for a ground floor plant for glass and smaller tree frogs with its wide and long leaves. Can be a bit too big for smaller dart frog tanks, although if there is room for it it can really set a sense of scale. Images shown are of a young plant, 1 week after adding to our Glass Frogs Vivarium. Grows as a fuzzy pink branching stem with long green leaves extending outwards from paired branches.
Flowers occasionally with miniature white and pink flowers but not the highlight of the plant in our opinion.
Does well with a standard ABG mix soil, don’t let soil dry out.
Does well in 70+ humidity, if humidity is very high and airflow is low this will cause thin aerial roots to form. This is very common along the bottom 3-4 inches of the plant and is not a negative sign. If roots are forming along the entire stem and not wanted, try lowering the humidity or increasing airflow.
Likes moderate to low light.
